Tourists Praise Curaçao’s Hospitality, but Raise Concerns About Value for Money

WILLEMSTAD – Visitors to Curaçao are overwhelmingly positive about the friendliness of the local population and the quality of service in the tourism sector, according to the Exit Survey 2025 conducted by the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB).

The highest rating in the survey was awarded to the friendliness of the local population. No less than 67 percent of respondents described this aspect of their stay as “excellent.” Service and friendliness among employees in the tourism sector also scored strongly, with 62 percent of visitors giving an excellent rating. These results underline the importance of hospitality as one of Curaçao’s key strengths as a tourist destination.

Positive reviews for gastronomy and accommodations

Curaçao’s culinary offerings were also well received. Some 46 percent of tourists rated the island’s gastronomy as excellent, reflecting growing appreciation for the diversity and quality of local and international dining options.

Accommodation quality likewise earned high marks, with 57 percent of visitors describing their lodging experience as excellent. This suggests that hotels, resorts, and other accommodation providers continue to meet the expectations of a large share of visitors.

Mixed feedback on shopping and cleanliness

Visitor opinions were more divided when it came to shopping and the overall cleanliness of the island. Only 28 percent of tourists rated the shopping experience as excellent, indicating room for improvement in retail variety, accessibility, or overall appeal.

Similarly, the island’s beauty and cleanliness received an excellent rating from just 36 percent of respondents. While still a significant share, the score is notably lower than those for hospitality and accommodations, suggesting that environmental maintenance and public space management remain areas of concern.

Safety viewed positively, value for money draws criticism

Nearly half of the tourists surveyed—49 percent—rated safety on the island as excellent. While this reflects a generally positive perception, it also suggests that safety remains a factor influencing the overall visitor experience.

The most critical feedback related to value for money. Only 30 percent of visitors rated Curaçao’s overall price-quality ratio as excellent, making it the lowest-scoring category in the survey. The result points to growing sensitivity among tourists to prices, especially in comparison to perceived value.

Overall, the findings confirm Curaçao’s strong reputation for hospitality and service, while highlighting challenges related to affordability, cleanliness, and the broader visitor experience that policymakers and industry stakeholders may need to address.
