Treasury empty sooner than expected

Local | By Correspondent May 13, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao treasury will be empty earlier than expected this year. This is mainly due to various additional government expenditures in connection with the corona pandemic. As a result, the liquidity shortage will present itself earlier than expected.

This is what outgoing Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath writes to the leaders of the intended new coalition parties MFK and PNP. Rhuggenaath previously announced that Curaçao may no longer be able to meet its financial obligations in June. Due to extra expenditure on Curaçao Medical Center and the vaccination program, that moment may come earlier, which means in two or three weeks.
