WILLEMSTAD - Trucks from Curacao Heavy Equipment Association (CHEA) blocked the Ruyterkade for a while this morning. The drivers wanted to go to Fort Amsterdam but were stopped by the police.
Today the ultimatum that the CHEA had issued to gain access to the financial information of the oil distribution company Curoil expired. The organization disagrees with the drastic fuel price increases.
As is known, the price of diesel and gasoline was significantly increased on 4 August. The owners of heavy equipment fear that this increase will kill them financially and demand from the government access to Curoil's cost calculations.
Minister of Economic Development Steven Martina spoke to the CHEA at the Ruyterkade. Martina stated that he had already given all the information. He compared the current price of gasoline and diesel with that of before the corona crisis and they hardly differ from each other, according to Martina.
The government is awaiting advice from Bureau Telecommunication & Post (BT&P). Martina has invited the truck owners to come to a meeting on Friday to further discuss the matter, expecting the advice from BT&P to be received by then.
