Tula commemoration on Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - The annual Tula commemoration today is an important day for many Curaçaoans, all over the world. Various meetings are also organized in the Netherlands.  

 

This year, all eyes are on the national commemoration in Curaçao on Wednesday evening, at which a delegation of members of the Dutch parliament will be present.  

 

Delegation leader Kiki Hagen of D66 lays a wreath on behalf of the Committee for the Interior. The Dutch parliamentarians also visit the Curaçao parliament, the governor and the Council of Ministers.  

 

Tomorrow they will follow the Ruta di Tula (Tula route) and visit different locations. Meetings with local residents are also on the program and a visit to the University of Curaçao.  

 

The delegation investigates the colonial past of the Netherlands and focuses on the slavery past in preparation for the 2023 commemoration year of the abolition of slavery.  

 

The members of parliament who come to Curaçao and Bonaire on behalf of the Committee for the Interior are: Kiki Hagen (delegation leader, D66), Salima Belhaj (D66), Inge van Dijk (CDA), Renske Leijten (SP), Kati Piri (PvdA), Jesse Klaver (GroenLinks), Don Ceder (CU), Sylvana Simons (BIJ1) and Marieke Koekkoek (Volt).
