Two drug seizures within 24 hours for Zr.Ms. Groningen

Local | By Correspondent June 14, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch naval vessel Zr.Ms. Groningen intercepted two drug shipments within 24 hours. The ship also seized an estimated 1,040 kg of cocaine.

A maritime patrol plane detected a fast motorboat in the Caribbean Sea in early June. The Zr. Ms. Groningen then called in the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter of the US Coast Guard stationed on board to locate the suspected boat. The boat then stopped and the people on board were arrested.

Subsequently, the crew of Zr. Ms. Groningen, shortly after completing the first action, had a second boat in sight. “We acted quickly on this by sending the helicopter and the two FRISC interceptors again. Partly due to the speed of action, the second go-fast was intercepted," said Defense.

The five people on board of both actions and the drug seizures were later transferred to a US Coast Guard ship.
