WILLEMSTAD - One radio station and one radio and television station in Curaçao are at risk of being taken off the air. This is according to the Minister of Telecommunications Charles Cooper.
The reason is the outstanding accounts they have with the regulator the Bureauo Telecommunication & Post (BTP). According to the minister, the two have not paid their mandatory contribution for a long time and it is now enough. The minister indicates that the outstanding debt is in the thousands of guilders.
A number of other radio stations have been warned because the last bill has not been paid. Curaçao has 27 radio stations and two television stations with a radio license: Telecuraçao and Direct Media.
