UN Handicap treaty not yet in force in the Caribbean

Local | By Correspondent September 29, 2021

THE HAGUE - It does not appear that the UN Handicap Treaty will also apply to the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom - including the special municipalities of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba - in the short term. This can be deduced from the answer by Undersecretary Paul Blokhuis to a question from the D66 faction in the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament.

The treaty was entered into by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 2016, but only ratified for the European part “because Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten still had the agreement under consideration and in the Caribbean Netherlands the legislation to implement the treaty was not yet ready, Blokhuis said. This situation has not changed since 2016.
