Union ABVO raises concerns over dismissal of eight customer service employees at the tax office

WILLEMSTAD - The union ABVO has expressed serious concerns regarding the sudden dismissal of eight employees from the Customer Service Department of Curaçao's Tax Office. According to an ABVO spokesperson, these terminations occurred unexpectedly before the official end of the employees' contracts, with suggestions that personal relationships may have influenced these decisions.

“There were no objective evaluations, and certain employees were allowed to remain due to connections with other staff members,” the spokesperson stated, emphasizing concerns over fairness in the termination process.

In response to these concerns, the union reached out to Finance Minister Javier Silvania, urging him to intervene. However, Silvania redirected the matter to the Tax Office’s management, which stated it lacked insight into the specific circumstances surrounding the dismissals.

The ABVO spokesperson stressed the importance of fair evaluations based solely on job performance rather than personal connections, calling for transparency and impartiality in employment decisions at the Tax Office.
