WILLEMSTAD - The appeal against George Jamaloodin began this morning at 10:00. The former finance minister challenges his 28-year prison sentence. He was sentenced for his part in the murder of former Member of Parliament for the Pueblo Soberano Party, Helmin Wiels. The judge then found evidence that he had provoked and paid the murder. However, the motif remained unknown.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) also appealed.

Jamaloodin was convicted last year as an instigator who ordered murder broker Burney "Nini" Fonseca to carry out the assassination of politician Helmin Wiels. Earlier, gunner Elvis "Monster" Kuwas and his client, murder broker Burney "Nini" Fonseca, were found guilty in all instances and sentenced to life. Both were found guilty of planning and committing the murder of Wiels.

In the case, which has now dragged on for 6 years, many prominent figures were interviewed and interrogated, including ex-Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte, ex-justice minister Elmer Wilsoe, ex-minister Carlos Monk, ex-minister Carlos Trinidad and gambling bosses Rodolfo Pizziolo, Cocochi Prince as well as Jamaloodin's brother, gambling boss Robbie dos Santos. After all these years, nothing has ever been announced about the intellectuals.

Today was a pre-trial review and any further investigation wishes were announced. In addition, the date was also announced when the appeal will be heard substantively.

The substantive treatments will possibly be on October 29 and 30. But if all witnesses need to be heard, Jamaloodin’s lawyer, Eldon Sulvaran indicated that he might need four days. On July 9, at 15.15 the court decides on requests for more investigation. Jamaloodin indicated that he wants to be there. The court agreed.
