WILLEMSTAD - The arson in a foreigners' barrack of the SDKK prison yesterday was a protest by detained illegal immigrants.
The prisoners have indicated that they are not satisfied with the living conditions in the foreigners' barracks. For example, only bread would be served throughout the day.
The illegal refugees say they are not criminals and do not want to be treated as such.
SDKK prison spokesman Jabets Pinedo indicated that several mattresses and cameras had been destroyed in the protest, which is under further investigation.
Two prisoners managed to escape yesterday, through a search by the police and the coast guard, the two were later arrested.
