WILLEMSTAD - Prepaid calling is loss-making. The United Telecommunication Services (UTS) says this in a lawsuit about retaining the calling credit.
This week, UTS customers demanded in summary proceedings that their call credit should not be taken away before the usual validity period. But according to the telecom provider, the costs are so high that it cannot change its policy.
Every year UTS must pay 92 guilders to the Bureau of Telecommunication & Post (BT&P) per SIM card and maintaining a prepaid number would also cost 121 guilders.
Citizens see the shortening of the validity of the calling credit as theft. The court ruling is in two weeks, November 24.
