WILLEMSTAD - State Secretary Alexandra Van Huffelen arrived on Curaçao yesterday for her introductory trip to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. She arrived exactly one month after she became a State Secretary in the new Rutte cabinet.
Van Huffelen will pay a working visit to Curaçao, Bonaire, Aruba, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba from February 10 to 24. During this visit, the State Secretary wants to be informed about important matters such as livelihood security, education, the economy and care for nature.
Today and tomorrow, the State Secretary will hold talks with the Governor, the Prime Minister, the Council of Ministers and the President of the Parliament. The meeting with President of Parliament America-Francisca will be virtual, because she is in Panama at the Parlatino meeting. Van Huffelen will also have an introductory meeting with the National Reform Commission about the multi-year developments.
In the coming days, the minister will also visit the foreigners' barracks, various neighborhoods on the island and various residents and business owners. Finally, a visit to Plasa Bieu, the Tula monument and a conversation with various people about the slavery past is planned.
On Saturday afternoon, the State Secretary will hold a press conference at the Avila Beach Hotel.
The State Secretary will travel to Bonaire on Sunday.
