THE HAGUE - State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Alexandra van Huffelen (D66) encourages business trips to the Caribbean part of the kingdom. Van Huffelen reported this to the Caribbean Network during her visit to Bonaire.
If it is up to the Secretary of State, more business trips will take place. Van Huffelen says that she has started to think differently about the problems on the islands through her various working visits to the islands. She believes that the travel visits lead to better political decisions in The Hague for people in the Caribbean part of the kingdom.
The State Secretary believes it is important that all colleagues come to the islands. “By coming together with my colleagues, we can see the core of the problem,” says Van Huffelen.
State Secretary Van Huffelen paid her second visit to Bonaire this month, attended by Minister Hugo de Jonge of Housing and Spatial Planning. Last week it was also the turn of State Secretary Maarten van Ooijen of Health, Welfare and Sport. He visited Bonaire and St. Eustatius with a view to health care, youth care and tackling domestic violence.
