WILLEMSTAD - Playa Hunku must be freely accessible to the Curaçao population. That is what Fundashon ViBa, the interest group of Bándabou, states in a press release.
Now the beach is only accessible via Playa Porto Marie. According to ViBa, this must be different. Playa Hunku is a public beach. That is why the interest group advocates a public road to the hidden piece of paradise in Bándabou.
This way the local population can also enjoy the beach, according to ViBa. The organization also states that the government must conclude an agreement with Gijs Weetink, the owner of Porto Marie. This agreement must state that as long as the public road to Playa Hunku is under construction, Weetink will offer visitors free access to the adjacent beach.
ViBa regrets that the island's natural resources are not accessible to the local population. “As a result, Curaçaoans cannot explore their island.”
On the beach there is a beach house and a palapa for shade. Furthermore, there are no facilities. Playa Hunku is also rented out for weddings or other private parties. According to ViBa at astronomical prices.
