WILLEMSTAD - People with psychological complaints must be patient in order to be treated. The waiting time for an appointment with a psychologist has increased to three months. Jihan Elhage, chairman of PsyCur, says that psychologists have noticed an increase in requests for help due to the Covid-19 crisis.
In addition to fear complaints about the crisis, the psychologists also see an increase in stress, due to, for example, a cut on working hours and therefore less salary. Not only adults are concerned, children are also affected. "They are afraid of going to school, because they think they will get infected despite the social distance measures, Elhage said.
Burnout complaints also increase because people work harder in order not to lose their job. These complaints can lead to an increase in domestic violence and depressive complaints.
