Walk 4 Light against hospice taboo

Local | By Correspondent September 23, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - Hospice Arco Cavent is organizing Walk 4 Light again next Saturday. A walking tour to commemorate the deceased and to support people who fight for their lives.

The two previous editions of the Walk 4 Light took place at the SDK, but this year the organization has chosen Parasasa Beach. The hike starts at the water company and ends at Piscadera where people with a light in their hand commemorate and support. Subsequently, a Randal Corsen concert will take place.

One of the many volunteers at the Hospice Arco Cavent is Yithza Davelaar. She lost her mother, who spent the last month of her life in the hospice and died there. Because of that positive experience, Davelaar wanted to give something back and decided to work as a volunteer.

In addition to commemorating and supporting and of course raising money for the hospice, breaking the taboo surrounding the hospice is one of the goals of the Walk 4 Light. According to Davelaar, people don't have to be ashamed to take their loved ones out of the house and take them to the hospice.

The Walk 4 Light will take place next Saturday starting at 6 a.m. Tickets cost 20 guilders and can be purchased tomorrow at Mensing’s Caminada and Sambil. And at De Dames and Onderlinge Hulp the entire next week. Spontaneous registration next Saturday is also possible.
