Warning to snack bars (snèk)

Local | By Correspondent December 2, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The head of the inspectorate department at the Ministry of Economic Development warns snèks (snack bars) owners and their customers to obey the COVID-19 rules. Since December 1, Curaçao has a ban on drinking alcohol in public spaces. However, many snack bar owners still simply serve alcohol to their customers, but they put the drink in soup cups. They think that they are outsmarting the inspection team, says Ronny Cornelis. He says there will be tough action against such practices. The number of COVID-19 infections can only decrease if everyone adheres to the rules.

Cornelis appeals to both customers and snack bar owners to comply with the applicable rules from today and not to allow customers to drink at snèks and minimarkets. Yesterday on Curaçao, groups of people were seen drinking alcohol on the street in various places without worrying about the new measures. According to Cornelis, strict action will be taken against this in the coming period.
