Week4Light instead of Walk4Light at hospice

Local | By Correspondent November 17, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The Walk4Light has been canceled this year due to the corona pandemic. This annual fundraising event is organized by Hospice Arco Cavent. Since the fundraising is important for the continued existence of Hospice Arco Cavent, it has been decided to have the event take place online this year through the Week4Light.

During Week4Light, the Hospice will provide information about everything that has to do with death. The hospice says that people often find it scary to talk about death and this is still taboo. By organizing the Week4Light, this is discussed in an accessible and realistic way. By sharing stories online and showing understanding and commitment, people become aware that death is part of life and that it is nothing to fear.

“People who are terminally ill reside in our hospice. The emphasis is on quality of life, good care and as much comfort as possible. Because the residents are in the last phase of their lives, the focus is no longer on the treatment of the disease, but on the quality of life,” says Hospice Arco Cavent.

Private individuals can buy a wristband and a lantern bag at Hospice Arco Cavent and at Bruna in Zuikertuin Mall every day between 10:00 and 14:00. the intention is that people write a nice text for, for example, a deceased loved one on the lantern bag and hand it in immediately or bring it to the hospice on the last day of Week4Light.

With all the bags handed in, a big heart is formed at the Cathedral of Thorns of Herman van Bergen. In the evening the candles in the bags are lit to commemorate deceased loved ones and to radiate light to Curaçao after this bizarre year that has touched us all. These images of the oasis of light will be shared via Facebook.

The Week4Light takes place from December 7 to December 13, 2020.
