WILLEMSTAD - Photographer Humbert “Umpi” Welvaart again heard a demand of four and a half years prison sentence. The well-known photographer was acquitted in the first instance for his involvement in the Capo case.
He is the owner of the boat El Capo, which brought a consignment of drugs from Venezuela into Curaçao in 2019. In addition to Welvaart, three more suspects are on trial. The case against the fourth suspect has been postponed.
Welvaart and his two companions deny any involvement in the drug transport. Walvaart says he only transports fish. None of the suspects knows how the drugs got on board.
Ruling is on Sept 15.
