Without agreements, the money runs out quickly

Local | By Correspondent July 10, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - If support from the Netherlands fails to materialize, the bottom of the treasury will quickly come into view. This on the basis of figures from the Curaçao Ministry of Finance.

In September, the money runs out and the government will have to borrow from the Central Bank. Payments of civil servant salaries, pension contributions, and payments to the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) and the Pension Fund, as well as subsidies and benefits, will then stop. Curaçao has so far received 384 million guilders corona support from the Netherlands in the form of soft loans.

The government is in talks with the Netherlands for the third tranche of soft loans. No agreement has been reached yet.
