WILLEMSTAD - The police arrested a woman on Saturday at 11:00 in the morning. She is said to have threatened Premier Eugene Rhuggenaath with death, insulted him and incited people against the prime minister.
In a press statement, the police say the woman posted on social media a photo of the prime minister with the death threat and the statement underneath. The woman is also said to have roused her audience.
The arrest took place in the Kanga district, the suspect is a 29-year-old woman born in Curaçao with the initials E.S.O.
Her house has also been searched. Officers seized articles related to her post on social media.
PROSECUTION
Earlier this week, the Public Prosecutor's Office said that it understands the difficult situation regarding the government's restrictive measures in the fight against covid19. But it also warned the public that there are limits to freedom of expression: sedition is punishable by law.
It is not known whether the inflammatory text was placed in the context of the corona crisis. The police have not released the content of the text and photo.
