Year-End Celebration Held for Special Education School Marieta Alberto

Local | By Press release December 15, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (ESKD), on behalf of Minister Sithree van Heydoorn, organized a year-end celebration for all teachers and students of Special Education School Marieta Alberto. All departments of the school (MLK, ZMLK, FSO and VSO) participated with their students and teachers in the event, which took place at the Renaissance Wind Creek Curaçao Resort. The first group enjoyed breakfast, while the second group was treated to lunch.

Students from the first school opened the morning with the singing of the national anthem, guided by their teachers. Following this, master of ceremonies Janine Pieterz-Maria invited government official Vitalia Koster to deliver a short address. She, in turn, invited a former student of the school to share his life story after completing his education. The former student spoke about having a family, being employed, owning a pickup truck, raising two children and being a responsible citizen in the community. His story served as a powerful example to the students, demonstrating that personal achievement is possible when one focuses on abilities and maintains a positive outlook on life.

Minister responsible for education, Sithree van Heydoorn, delivered a deeply emotional speech, as the positive energy and atmosphere resonated strongly with all those present. Since the start of the 2025/2026 school year, the minister has placed special emphasis on students in special education. He stressed that education must be inclusive and that every student deserves the necessary attention to develop fully and reach their maximum potential.

The minister also acknowledged the presence of Mrs. Marieta Alberto, who many years ago initiated the vision that led to the establishment of this special education school. Words of gratitude were extended to government officials, school management teams and all teachers working at the schools.

The celebration continued with a lively program featuring a DJ, Santa Claus and performances by the students, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. The Ministry of ESKD thanked all colleagues who stepped away from their office duties to assist in serving the students during the morning. Heartfelt appreciation was expressed to everyone who contributed in any way to the success of the event.

In closing, the Ministry of ESKD wished all teachers, educators and students a happy year-end season and invited the entire education community to celebrate together in unity and enter 2026 with peace and happiness.
