WILLEMSTAD - During the Youth and Nature Education Symposium, a group of involved teenagers had the opportunity to discuss nature conservation and the involvement of young people. The Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) would like to involve young people in nature conservation. Princess Beatrix was also present at the annual convention.

According to the organization, one of DCNA's priorities is to involve youth in their work for nature conservation in the Dutch Caribbean. DCNA chairwoman Hellen van der Wal is convinced that the younger generation are the future. “They have a voice, and we should listen to them more,” said Van der Wal.

In total, seventeen participants between the ages of fifteen and twenty-three had the opportunity to discuss how they would further develop nature conservation in Curaçao and how they would like the government to commit to nature conservation. After the debate, they were given the opportunity to present their ideas to Princess Beatrix.

The princess concluded her working visit to Curaçao yesterday. Princess Beatrix visited various nature organizations. During a press conference, the princess said that she had a great time on the island and that she hopes to return.
