WILLEMSTAD - The patrol ship Zr.Ms. Groningen is back in Curaçao. The patrol ship arrived in the port of Willemstad on Tuesday. The ship is the new station ship in the Caribbean.
The ship was received in port by the Caribbean Defense Forces. They performed a military ceremony together as the ship entered port.
The patrol vessel had to return from the Caribbean to the Netherlands in December 2020 for repairs. There were technical defects in the ship that could not be repaired in the short term.
In the meantime there were several replacements for the patrol ship, including the Zr.Ms.Holland. The Zr.Ms.Groningen will take over the tasks of the Zr.Ms.Friesland, which is now deployed as a station ship in the Caribbean. The boat will be used, among other things, for counter-narcotics operations.
