WILLEMSTAD - With a total of 105 new infections today, a new lockdown for Curacao is very close. This was evident from a briefing held by Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath and Epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth.

105 is a new COVID-19 record, last week Curacao had 76 infections in one day. Prime Minister Rhuggenaath and Izzy Gerstenbluth emphasized to maintain the social distance, to stay away from other people, not to organize meetings and to observe hygiene rules.

The government emphasizes that it almost exclusively concerns local infections.

“And not only do we see the 105 new infections, but other countries also see that. If we do not take measures ourselves, then other countries will shut us off,” says Rhuggenaath. Provided the number of infections does not decrease, Rhuggenaath announced that if the situation does not change, he would not hesitate to impose a new lockdown to reduce the virus.
