WILLEMSTAD - The first “Invest in Willemstad” investment summit took place two years ago. After this summit, organized by the Dutch employers' organization VNO-NCW and various Curaçao parties, there was an optimistic atmosphere about the development opportunities for Curaçao’s world heritage city. A direct consequence of this summit was, for example, the purchase of Plaza by the APC pension fund in consultation with the HPC group.
On November 25, 2020, a virtual 2nd edition took place on a modest scale. This year Curaçao is organizing the 3rd edition of Invest in Willemstad on Monday 6 December. This event will take place at Scharloo at Villa Maria from 16:00-19:00.
The covid crisis, with the result that cruise ships no longer called at Curaçao and overnight tourism collapsed, caused a delay in the implementation of the plans among investors and entrepreneurs who wanted to do something in Willemstad. However, the tide is turning and interest in Willemstad is increasing. New developments outline the future of the city.
In this third edition of Invest in Willemstad the organizers would like to take stock of the situation and look ahead to the future of Willemstad. Representatives of the four districts of Willemstad, namely Punda, Otrobanda, Pietermaai and Scharloo, will give a short update on this.
In addition, the organizers asked developers of interesting projects to briefly present their plans. Invited are the important people involved in the developments around the Plaza Hotel in Punda, the Sint Elisabeth district (SEHOS) and Kurá Hulanda in Otrobanda, the Wharf at Scharloo and in Pietermaai/Penstraat.
The opening will be by Ministers Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning and Ruisandro Cijntje of Economic Development (MEO), as well as by chairman Billy Jonckheer of the Chamber of Commerce as a representative of the private sector.
