WILLEMSTAD - At 83 percent of the local companies in Curaçao, the lockdown had a negative impact on the turnover. The consequence of this, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), is that the activity and turnover of small, medium and large companies have decreased sharply.

In July of this year, the CBS conducted research into the impact of the mandatory lockdown, looking at the financial impact at local businesses by means of a business cycle survey.

Business owners indicate that their confidence in the economy has diminished sharply in the past period and that confidence in the future has deteriorated. Compared to December 2019, confidence in the future has even decreased from 51 percent to 35 percent.

This trend of declines also continues in the investment climate. Where 67 percent of business owners still had confidence in the investment climate last year, the survey now indicates that this has halved to only 34 percent.
