Additional Agreements Reached to Safeguard Long-Term Flight Safety in Curaçao Airspace

Main news | By Correspondent December 27, 2025

WILLEMSTAD — DC-ANSP and the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority have reached additional agreements aimed at safeguarding flight safety in the Curaçao Flight Information Region (FIR) over the longer term. The agencies announced the development in a joint communiqué.

Earlier, both authorities had already reached an agreement with representatives of the United States Air Force on a temporary arrangement for the identification of military aircraft operating within Curaçao’s airspace. Those measures were introduced in the interest of maintaining aviation safety amid increased military activity in the region.

In recent days, the initial arrangements have been further elaborated and expanded. The primary objective of the extended agreements is to prevent potential conflict situations between military and civilian aircraft operating within the Curaçao FIR.

According to the announcement, the measures will remain in effect until further notice. Authorities expect that the arrangements will have no impact, or only limited impact, on civil air traffic. Airlines will be informed through the usual communication channels.

DC-ANSP and the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority, which together are responsible for the management and safety of the airspace surrounding Curaçao, emphasized that the agreements are intended to ensure the continued safe and orderly flow of air traffic in the region.
