WILLEMSTAD - On Tuesday afternoon on Curaçao, the power returned in different neighborhoods, after it there was a total blackout on the island in the morning.

According to the director of the electricity company Aqualectra, a lot of work has been done to supply the hospital and the airport with electricity first. Then the electricity was restored one neighborhood at the time. He guaranteed that all households and businesses would have power again before nightfall.

The machines that generate electricity from Aqualectra had failed on Tuesday morning and had to be restarted. That took a few hours. According to the utility company, various problems had occurred in the preceding weeks with so-called "fluctuations in the electricity grid".

Companies decided earlier today to close the doors and students were also allowed to go home.

Last November there was also a so-called "blackout" on Curaçao that lasted almost a whole day. But according to the utility company that is independent of current problems.
