WILLEMSTAD - The weather system over the Caribbean Sea is moving towards the islands faster and larger than expected. The curfew on Curaçao has therefore been brought forward to 11:00 this morning.
Meteorologists think the storm will now rage over the islands at 7 p.m. The wind gusts may already start in the early afternoon.
Curaçao airport will remain open until 10 p.m. tonight, but because of the weather, KLM flight 735 has not departed from Amsterdam. The flight will now depart tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM and arrive at Hato at 12:30 PM.
In addition to the regular KLM flight that day, says regional manager Dirk Buitelaar. “No formal decision has yet been made for Bonaire flight KL 767, which is currently scheduled for departure at 3 p.m.
Airport spokesman Fayna Haseth emphasizes that Hato is following the advice of the Meteorological Service. This morning the management of Curaçao Airport Partners will meet to discuss the strategy to be followed.
Scheduled flights continue as usual. “Even those arriving or departing after the 4 p.m. curfew. Passengers can simply come to Hato with their ticket. The ticket is proof that you are allowed on the street.”
TUI flight OR 351 with destination Curaçao departed fifteen minutes late this morning. Arrival time is around 3 pm.
