COOPERSTOWN, NEW YORK – Baseball legend Andruw Jones has been elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, securing his place among the sport’s all-time greats. Jones received 78.4 percent of the vote from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, surpassing the required 75 percent threshold.

Jones first appeared on the Hall of Fame ballot in 2017 and achieved election on his ninth attempt. With this milestone, he becomes the first player from Curaçao ever inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame and only the second player from the Kingdom of the Netherlands to receive the honor, following Bert Blyleven’s induction in 2011.

Historic Moment

Jones’ election marks a historic achievement for the baseball community in Curaçao and the wider Kingdom. Widely regarded as one of the finest defensive outfielders in MLB history, Jones built his reputation primarily during his years with the Atlanta Braves in the 1990s and 2000s.

Over a 17-season Major League career, Jones hit 434 home runs, stole 152 bases, and won an extraordinary 10 consecutive Gold Glove Awards. His combination of power at the plate and elite defensive skills set him apart as one of the most complete outfielders the game has seen.

Hall of Fame Ceremony

Jones will be formally inducted during the Hall of Fame ceremony scheduled for July 26, 2026, in Cooperstown, New York. He will share the stage with fellow inductee Jeff Kent, who was selected by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee.

For Jones, the induction represents the culmination of a long journey toward recognition. In his first year of eligibility in 2018, he received just 7.3 percent of the vote—one of the lowest initial totals ever for a player who ultimately gained entry into the Hall of Fame.

Lasting Legacy

The MLB Hall of Fame remains one of the sport’s highest honors. Since its establishment in 1936, a total of 282 players have now been inducted. Jones’ inclusion not only cements his personal legacy, but also highlights Curaçao’s enduring impact on international baseball at the highest level.
