Animal Rights continues to litigate for dolphin conservation in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - Animal Rights will continue to litigate against Sea Aquarium. Adriaan 'Dutch' Schrier's company transported five dolphins to the Fakieh Aquarium in Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia, yesterday.

Although there was a ban on transport, the judge had also given room if Sea Aquarium would have all permits in order. Schrier said after the ruling that that is the case.

Revoke

Animal Rights wants the licenses issued to be revoked or destroyed. In that case, according to lawyer Berti Braam, the hasty decision to export the animals the day after the verdict can become an expensive decision.

“If this happens, the dolphins have been transported without a valid permit and the penalties will not only be forfeited, but the dolphins will also have to return to Curaçao,” said Braam.

The judge imposed a penalty of 200,000 guilders per dolphin on Sea Aquarium if it exports the dolphins without a valid and sufficient export license.

The dolphins are owned by the holding company Turslops Investments B.V., of which Adriaan Schrier is Supervisory Director.
