ARC: consultancy policy deteriorated recently

Main news | By Correspondent August 31, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The implementation of the consultancy policy of the Curaçao government has not improved over the past period compared to the previous period. This is apparent from an investigation by the Court of Audit of Curaçao (ARC).

Government consultancy expenditure fell sharply in the period 2016 to 2019 compared to the period 2011 to 2015. In the period from 2016 to 2019, approximately eight million guilders was spent on consultancy costs. In the previous period, it was 47.4 million guilders.

It also appears that the reporting on consultancy assignments has deteriorated. “The consultancy policy was largely not implemented in the periods studied. There is therefore a good chance that the underlying goals of the policy, namely the effective and efficient use of scarce resources by the government and ensuring fair competition, have not been achieved either,” according to the Court of Audit.

The ARC selected the two periods for the investigation based on the different legislations in effect during those periods. The Court of Audit did not take the policy of the two different governments into account in the investigation.
