WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath submitted the resignation to the Governor of Curaçao on behalf of his cabinet yesterday afternoon. This means that the Rhuggenaath cabinet - after having served its full term of four years - is now officially caretaker.

Rhuggenaath, who with his cabinet is the first government to have served the full four-year run since 10-10-'10, indicated to the press after submitting the resignation to the governor 'with a smile'. “That's because I feel a mission has been accomplished. We have promised stability and we have given it. Now we are going to the elections,” said the outgoing Prime Minister.

Submitting the resignation - one day before the parliamentary elections - is in accordance with the usual course of events. The governor has accepted the resignation of the Rhuggenaath cabinet and has asked Rhuggenaath to stay on with the other ministers until a new government takes office. Until then, the caretaker cabinet can only deal with current affairs.
