Avalon University receives full accreditation by international organizations

Main news | By Correspondent June 10, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The well-known Avalon University School of Medicine, which has been operating on the island since 2010 has reasons for a full-out celebration. This is also the feeling among the students and faculty who see the fruits of their efforts.

Avalon has been granted full accreditation for a period of six years by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM). This international organization has deemed that Avalon is in full compliance with their standards, and stated that they were very impressed with the growth of the medical university.

Founded in 2003, Avalon University School of Medicine (AUSOM) is a private medical school and since 2010 located in Curaçao.  It is chartered and recognized by the Government of Curaçao, and the charter entitles AUSOM to grant the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree to students who have successfully completed the medical school’s curricular requirements.  As an accredited medical school, AUSOM adopts a North American curriculum-based medical program, and the graduates are geared for medical practice in the United States and Canada.  AUSOM has taken all necessary steps to ensure that its graduates are eligible for medical licensure in the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world.

ACCM is an internationally recognized accrediting body that utilizes a rigorous, peer-review process that examines all aspects of a medical education program, and only certifiers medical schools which are operating at the highest levels of industry standards. The U.S. Department of Education recognizes ACCM as using standards comparable to the accrediting body for medical schools in the United States.

Avalon University is now the only medical school on the island which is accredited.
