Awareness campaign local farmers

Main news | By Correspondent November 4, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Many residents of Curaçao do not know that many products are produced locally. With the awareness campaign 'The Hidden Green Movement', Berber van Beek and Reina Keizers want to make consumers more aware.

Few people know that local food is for sale on Curaçao. Van Beek and Keijzers want to put twelve Curaçao farmers in the spotlight with the campaign. A lot of money is needed for the campaign. The project proposal is based on a budget of 79,000 guilders, half of which is covered with support from the Prince Bernhard Culture Funds Caribbean and companies. Van Beek states that the aim is to have the total amount required by 31 December at the latest. Before December 1, there is still 6,000 euros to be raised.

The aim is to launch the campaign in March 2022 and bring awareness to the world of local farmers. According to Keijzers and van Beek, buying local food has advantages. “It ensures a reduction in CO2 emissions, a healthier population, a strengthening of the economy and a more sustainable society, less food imports and more jobs in the agricultural sector,” according to van Beek and Keijzers.
