Bankruptcy looms for the Sint Elisabeth Foundation

Main news | By Correspondent March 30, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The utility company Aqualectra has filed for bankruptcy of the Sint Elisabeth Hospital (SEHOS). Even with the sale of the property, the foundation is unable to pay off all its debts.

Aqualectra must receive more than 3.7 million guilders from the foundation. In addition to Aqualectra, there are several creditors. The State, the Tax Department, and General Pension Fund (APC) are also waiting for money. The debt would now amount to 101 million guilders.

The sale of the property would yield 7.2 million guilders. This is insufficient to repay the debt of 101 million guilders. Aqualectra has twice agreed to postpone the bankruptcy petition. One of the reasons is because the foundation made a rescue plan. The utility company understands that the debt has since been reduced. This would increase the value of the property. However, there is still a gap of 40 million guilders.

It is now up to the court to declare bankruptcy.
