WILLEMSTAD - CASHA, the interest group for apartment owners in the tourism sector, has sounded the alarm this weekend. This happened during the presentation of the occupancy figures for December 2020. The occupancy for December is 24%, which is no less than 4.2% less than in November 2020. According to the organization, the outlook is also poor. CASHA emphasizes that many business owners have run out of reserves.
The number of cancellations is dramatic, with many properties reporting up to 100% cancellations for the month of January. The main reason for cancellation is the orange code that the Netherlands has given to Curacao. But also the entry ban from other countries, travel shame, travel fear and the advice to go into quarantine when they return, make our guests decide to cancel their holiday, CASHA reports.
Furthermore, the restrictions imposed by the government are cited as reasons for cancellation. Such as the curfew, early closing times for restaurants and the alcohol ban. Tourists often do not find this a basis for a carefree holiday, the organization reports.
