Main news | By Correspondent January 30, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) has presented an ambitious Research Agenda for the period 2026–2028, outlining the key economic and financial challenges that will shape policy discussions in the coming years. The agenda provides a structured framework for research that is expected to inform monetary policy, fiscal sustainability, and long-term economic resilience in Curaçao.

According to the CBCS, the agenda reflects lessons learned from previous research cycles and focuses on strengthening the island’s ability to withstand external shocks while promoting sustainable growth. Climate change, public finances, labor market dynamics, and economic resilience feature prominently, underscoring the structural vulnerabilities facing small island economies like Curaçao.

The bank emphasizes that research will play a central role in guiding evidence-based policymaking, particularly in an environment marked by global uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and climate-related risks. By publishing the agenda, the CBCS aims to stimulate public debate and enhance transparency around its policy-oriented research priorities.

The research agenda also highlights the interconnected nature of economic policy and financial stability, noting that sustainable growth depends on a sound and resilient financial system. The CBCS intends to publish at least two working papers per year during the 2026–2028 period, with findings feeding into policy advice to the governments of Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
