WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) is working on legislation for the maximum prices of the antigen self-tests for Covid-19. Minister Ruisandro Cijntje announced this in a press release. The self-tests can be sold again on Curaçao since January 1, but there are major prices differences between the pharmacies.
The minister stated in the press release that there was a lot of unrest due to the price differences. Legislation is currently underway that will allow the government to intervene if the products are sold too expensively and if this goes against the public interest.
“We have a free market, but we are also in the middle of a pandemic that affects us all,” Cijntje writes. The next steps are being discussed together with Minister Dorothy Pietersz-Janga of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN).
The ministry will announce more about the action plan this week. Cijntje asks the population to comply with the corona rules and calls on shops to comply with the measures.
