CINEX and CurHydro sign Collaboration Agreement to scale up Curaçao’s Climate-Smart Agriculture

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Investment & Export Promotion Agency (CINEX) has officially signed a Collaboration Agreement with CurHydro B.V., a local leader in sustainable agriculture and hydroponic innovation. The agreement (dated 25 November 2025) establishes a strategic framework to promote investment in CurHydro’s 1.25-hectare solar-powered, climate-smart hydroponic greenhouse, designed to strengthen Curaçao’s food security, renewable energy integration, job creation, and future export readiness.

With production already underway and local sales successfully established, CurHydro is now entering its next phase: an expansion and scale-up valued at approximately XCG 10 million. The project aims to significantly increase production capacity and operational efficiency and is actively seeking strategic investment partnerships to support this growth. Once fully expanded, the project is expected to create 30 to 40 new jobs and produce premium-quality vegetables year-round using substantially less water, reduced pesticide input, and locally generated solar power.

As an island that imports over 90% of its food — local producers are estimated to supply only around 5 – 7% of overall consumption, strengthening food security remains a national priority. Initiatives like CurHydro are innovative and essential, fostering a more resilient and self-sufficient Curaçao while also opening the door to future export opportunities as production scales and consistency increases.

Through this agreement, CINEX will play a key role in supporting CurHydro’s investment promotion efforts by connecting the project with potential partners and investors, facilitating fiscal incentive processes where applicable, and assisting with regulatory and permit guidance to enable a smooth and successful project expansion.

“CurHydro represents the future of agriculture in Curaçao—innovative, efficient, and environmentally responsible,” said Miles Mercera, CEO of CINEX. “This partnership reflects our commitment to advancing sustainable industries that contribute to food security, export growth, and long-term economic resilience.” CurHydro’s management added: “We are proud to collaborate with CINEX in scaling up our operations and expanding Curaçao’s capacity for sustainable food production. Their expertise and network will be essential in attracting strategic investment and positioning Curaçao as a regional hub for climate-smart agriculture and future export markets.”

The signing marks a significant milestone in advancing sustainable innovation, food security, export development, and green investment in Curaçao—demonstrating how public-private collaboration can drive impactful and future-focused development.
