CMC is struggling with rent arrears of 63 million guilders

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is struggling with a rent arrears of 63 million guilders. In the long run, the backlog can have serious consequences for the management of the building and the replacement of medical equipment.

The hospital has to pay 3.8 million guilders a month to CMC Vastgoed. That's nineteen percent of the hospital's monthly expenses. At the same time, CMC Vastgoed has to repay a loan from the Curaçao government, which has again borrowed money from the Netherlands.

According to the management of the CMC, the healthcare budget is significantly too low. Several lawsuits have been filed about this and letters have been written to, among others, the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament. The hospital has now started the 'savings project 2021-2022'. The CMC hopes to achieve a total annual saving of 17 million guilders.
