CMC operation in 2021 fifty million guilders more than Sehos

Main news | By Correspondent August 26, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The operation of the new hospital will cost the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) fifty million guilders more than the old hospital Sehos. This is stated in the SVB's annual report for 2021.

The insurer must accommodate this in a budget-neutral way by adjusting various targets, which relate in particular to medicines, specialist medical care and medical care abroad.

In 2021, the SVB will save ten million guilders on expenses for specialists, six million guilders on medical care abroad and two million guilders on medicines.

The target savings will therefore only be partially achieved in 2021. Seventy million would be saved, but that only became 18 million.

Cause

The failure to fully achieve the target is mainly due to the fact that in pharmacy there is still no question of the 'immediate' registration by the government of medicines, in particular generics or 'brand generics', which are already registered in the European Union, USA or Canadian.

Also, the production ceiling for claims from medical specialists has not yet been enforced in the year 2021. This has to do with the legal objection and appeal procedures and court decisions.

Finally, the planned savings as a result of the introduction of a pension age limit for the retirement of care providers from the SVB has been canceled by order of the General Court.

Additional Savings

In order to be able to realize the savings, SVB has developed a package of additional control measures in consultation with the Ministry of Health at the beginning of 2021.

Currently, this package, which should generate thirty million guilders in savings, is available to the advisory bodies.
