CMC resumes elective care for SVB patients

Main news | By Correspondent October 28, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) will resume elective care for Social Insurance Bank (SVB) patients from Monday, November 1. That decision was taken after Minister of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) Dorothy Pietersz-Janga ordered the SVB on Wednesday to give the CMC an advance.

The SVB has announced in a letter that it will transfer 4.1 million guilders as an advance so that elective care can be guaranteed in the coming month. The CMC emphasizes that the advance is not sufficient to cover the costs until the end of the year.

At the end of September, the hospital sounded the alarm. Since October 1, the CMC has stopped all unnecessary medical treatments for SVB patients. The money that the SVB has made available for 2021 does not cover all hospital costs.

The CMC has now started contacting patients on the waiting list and planning necessary treatments.
