Commotion about letter Fontilus

Main news | By Correspondent October 22, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - A letter from the temporary inspector for medicines Peter Fontilus yesterday caused a lot of commotion within the Ministry of Public Health. Former Health Minister Suzanne Camelia-Römer says Fontilus is misinformed and "does not know what he is talking about".

Fontilus wrote a letter to the current minister of health, Zita Jesus-Leito. In the letter, Fontilus states that the Curaçao government may have a double agenda in the discussion about the medicines supply on the island. The government would like to drastically limit the number of pharmacists. Camelia-Römer does not consider his suggestion based on anything.

Fontilus thinks the government wants to eliminate the drug wholesaling sector in order to move to a government-run purchasing center, leaving only four pharmacies. The letter has caused quite a stir within the Ministry of Health. Also, because Inspector General Dr. Sirving Kelli would not have been aware of the letter.
