Complaint Filed Against Curaçao-Based Online Casino for Alleged Violations

Main news | By Correspondent December 30, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - João Pedro Andrade do Mar, a Portuguese resident, has formally filed a complaint and appeal against Slott Casino, operated by Bluewave Interactive NV, a company registered in Curaçao under Company Number 164592. The complaint details multiple allegations, ranging from regulatory violations to potential international crimes.

Key Allegations Against Slott Casino

Failure to Address Complaints
According to the complaint, Slott Casino has ignored hundreds of emails and complaints since October 4, 2024. This lack of response has raised concerns about the operator’s commitment to customer support and compliance.

Noncompliance with Responsible Gambling
Despite Mr. Mar’s prior self-exclusion from related casinos managed by the same group in Portugal, including Leon Bet, Slott Casino allegedly allowed him to create an account and deposit over €7,100 in a single day. The complaint asserts that mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks, as stipulated in the casino's terms and conditions, were not conducted.

Operational Mismanagement
The operator's licensing information is described as inconsistent, referencing various entities such as GCB, CEG, and Antillephone NV. Employees reportedly confused Slott Casino with “Leon,” which Mr. Mar claims is not a legal casino, further highlighting operational flaws.

Illegal Activity in Portugal
Slott Casino allegedly targets Portuguese players without a valid license from the Portuguese gambling authority (SRIJ). The casino is accused of using local payment providers such as MBWAY via “EuPago, Porto” and promoting its services in Portugal through social media influencers and ads, despite an official shutdown order from SRIJ.

Security and Compliance Failures
The casino’s KYC system reportedly allows account creation with false information, such as nonexistent emails and impossible birth years. Mr. Mar stated that he was able to create an account using details linked to his previously self-excluded accounts, raising serious concerns about the platform’s compliance standards.

Lack of Support and Compliance
The complaint alleges that Slott Casino’s compliance and dispute resolution teams failed to respond to an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) complaint, even after extended deadlines were granted by its former regulator, CEG.

Legal and Regulatory Violations
Mr. Mar claims that Slott Casino has violated its own terms and conditions, as well as Portuguese laws, by neglecting KYC and AML obligations and illegally promoting its services. He also accuses the operator of committing international crimes, including potential money fraud.

Requested Resolution

Mr. Mar is seeking a refund of €7,100 and a resolution to his ADR complaint. He has provided evidence of the alleged violations and is prepared to escalate the matter by filing a criminal lawsuit if the operator fails to address the issues.

Broader Implications

Mr. Mar’s complaint raises concerns about the integrity of online gambling operators licensed in Curaçao and their adherence to international standards. The allegations, if proven, could lead to regulatory actions, including the revocation of Bluewave Interactive NV’s license or its addition to industry blacklists.

Slott Casino and its parent company have not yet issued a response to these serious accusations. The case underscores the importance of robust regulatory oversight in the online gambling industry to protect players and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
