CORC throws in the towel

Main news | By Correspondent November 2, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Curacao Oil Refinery Complex (CORC BV) has informed the new management of the Curaçao Refinery (RdK) that it will withdraw completely as a candidate for the acquisition of the refinery. On Monday, RdK already announced that it no longer wanted to continue exclusively with CORC.

The RdK management informed CORC BV in a letter that the refinery will continue to look at other possible candidates for operating the refinery.

According to the RdK, the search will be expanded at the request of the Supervisory Board (RvC) and with the permission of the government. The refinery no longer wants to be tied to CORC and expects to increase its own opportunities by inviting multiple parties interested in the acquisition.

The reason for the discontinuation is that, according to RdK, CORC does not meet the requirements. That is why the management has decided, together with the government, to clear the way for other parties. CORC director Manoel 'Lito' De Silva De Freitas would have said that this is a reason for CORC to withdraw completely.

The recruitment of possible new partners will be led by a committee consisting of two representatives of the government and two representatives of the RdK.
