Country Curacao partly responsible for debts Sehos

Main news | By Correspondent April 26, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Sehos wants the government of Curaçao to fulfill its agreements. That is why the former hospital has asked the judge to recover the debt from Aqualectra from the State. This concerns 3.3 million guilders in unpaid water and electricity bills.

Between Sehos and the State there is a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). In this arrangement, agreements have been made about debt restructuring in connection with the construction of the new hospital, among other things. The country has failed to do so. The country has also not complied with the follow-up agreements. For example, the country would pay 11 million guilders to Sehos. Because the State ignored these agreements, the former hospital was unable to meet its obligations.

Earlier, Aqualectra filed for bankruptcy of Sehos. However, the foundation has been granted a postponement of payment. Meanwhile, Sehos signed a rescue plan with a property developer. This plan is to breathe new life into the former hospital. The case will go to court on May 23.
