Court of Audit: Sale of Curaçao House buildings not in accordance with the law

Main news | By Correspondent December 3, 2020

WILLEMSTAD, THE HAGUE - In a report, the Court of Audit lashed out at former Minister Plenipotentiary Marvelyne Wiels. The Court of Audit investigated the sale of the Curaçao House on Badhuisweg in The Hague.

Wiels was not authorized to proceed with the sale and acted contrary to the Constitution, the Court of Audit concludes. No order had been given for the sale of Wiels' official residence either.

Wiels had also not received a formal order from the Asjes government to proceed with the sale of her official residence. The Court of Audit also looked at the purchase of the new Curaçao House on Prinsengracht in The Hague.

In the end, Parliament did not give permission for the sale, so it was canceled.

According to the Curaçao news agency, the entire sale seems like a handclapping between the Asjes government and party member who was the minister plenipotentiary at that time, Marvelyne Wiels. Asjes had approved the case in the Council of Ministers but had not checked whether Wiels' request for approval had complied with all legal provisions.
