WILLEMSTAD - During his briefing today, epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth indicated that the number of positive cases remains at 16. One is in the hospital, three are in isolation, and twelve are now safe. As is known, the first confirmed case on the island passed away. According to the doctor, they will continue testing.
The doctor said he has received messages from several people asking why it is taking so long to ease the corona measures and to open businesses. “We are not trying to bully business owners or to destroy the economy. We continue to ease the measures but one step at the time. This to prevent a second wave like what happened to Hokkaido (Japan).”
The doctor explains that there are pocket cases or people who have the virus but don’t know that they are infected. “If we open too fast, these people can spread the virus to more parts of the island infected vulnerable people,” said the doctor.
“These small groups of infections (if any) are now limited. By doing the easing step by step, we can keep an eye on this.”
But the doctor warns that there will be a second wave of infection once the borders are open.
